Kosta Boda Picnic 15.5 oz. Glass Set of 2

The Kosta Boda Picnic series was an immediate success when it was first launched in the radical 1960s. People at the time had a strong contempt for the bourgeois demand for large tableware sets, preferring instead to drink straight from the bottle or from simple drinking glasses. Bertil Vallien, the designer of the Picnic series, had a different vision in mind.

"I made Picnic to be a simple glass, with no stem or foot in the usual sense," Vallien explains. "The shape and concept result in a refined glass. The stout stem holds liquid all the way to the foot, giving the entire glass the color of the drink to hold onto. That makes the glass feel more festive than an ordinary drinking glass, and it also works well for serving milk on an ordinary Tuesday."

In addition to the glasses, the Picnic series also includes a carafe with a unique design. "With its spout, the carafe has a small curl that creates a birdlike appearance, lending it personality and character," says Vallien.

The Picnic series from Kosta Boda has stood the test of time and is now once again highly relevant. Vallien believes it is time for a new generation to experience and delight in the line that was so prevalent in homes in the late 1960s.

"Back to basics," Vallien concludes, capturing the essence of the Picnic series.
