Designer Anna Ehrner: An Introduction

Anna Ehrner, an artist born in 1948 in Danderyd, Stockholm, is known for her elegant and minimalist designs as a glass artist and designer. Her work is characterized by a simple design language and an experimental expression that focuses on creating impactful pieces with minimal color. Ehrner often incorporates lines of color inside the glass, which has become a signature element of her creations. Inspired by nature, her designs are born out of the glass itself.

Ehrner has been associated with Kosta Boda since 1974, following her studies in ceramics at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack). She has also served as a teacher at the university. Ehrner's portfolio includes several successful collections at Kosta Boda, notably Contrast and Line, with the latter being one of Sweden’s highest selling tableware collections of all time. Her design has been recognized with the Excellent Swedish Form award in 1992 and 1994, as well as the Swedish Glass award in 1983.

Ehrner describes her creative process as emerging in the blowing room, where the glass is conceived and brought to life. She seeks to work with the glass rather than against it, following the melted glass's natural flow and power while also identifying the beauty in simplicity and subtlety in her designs.
